From the Chair

Eve Espey, MD, MPHEve Espey

"Welcome to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of New Mexico.  We are committed to the health of all New Mexico women through our clinical, education and research activities.  As a faculty of obstetrician-gynecologists, including specialists in female cancers, family planning, high-risk pregnancy, female incontinence and prolapse, minimally invasive surgery as well as certified nurse midwives, we are proud of our vision and missions."

Vision

To deliver outstanding health care to all New Mexico women, to provide high quality education to students, residents and fellows to meet the provider needs of New Mexico, and to advance women’s health knowledge through research

Mission

  • To provide high quality compassionate patient-centered care to all New Mexico women.
  • To provide evidence-based education and training to medical students, resident physicians, fellows, faculty colleagues, and private practitioners.
  • To further the acquisition of women’s health knowledge through pursuing innovative and evaluative research.

We deliver care at UNM hospital, at clinics both in the hospital and in the community and at Sandoval Regional Medical Center (SRMC).  We also provide care through outreach across the state in many of our specialties such as high-risk pregnancy and female cancers.  As providers for the most complex patient problems, we are a referral center and strive to give not only the best care but also to maintain excellent relationships with our referring providers—giving timely and prompt information about their patients’ care.

We care about the community we serve—Albuquerque and local neighborhoods as well as the entire state of New Mexico.  To learn more about our department, faculty, learners and researchers, please visit our website our call the department at (505) 272-4051.
